High Attendance Day Challenge High Attendance Challenge

Meece Middle School fully believes that school attendance is a baseline factor for determining a student’s success; therefore, we are encouraging our students to be at school every single day.The state of Kentucky designated September 20th, as ‘High Attendance Day’.On this day, we challenged our students to have 100% attendance rate and we actually received 97.80%.Our students were rewarded for their efforts with a water balloon fight with the principals.

Somerset Boys Basketball Program Basketball Camp

Any 5th grade boy interested in attending the Offensive Improvement Basketball Camp, please read the attached flier.  The dates of the camp will be October 23rd, October 30th, November 6th and November 13th from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Somerset High School.

Candy Fundraiser MMS Fundraiser

Meece Middle School student's are currently having a fundraiser.  Money raised will be used to enhance student learning and provide opportunities for student field trips.  The sale ends on September 25, 2017 and all money has to be turned in by September 27th (before noon).  

Spacecraft Projects Student Constructed Spacecraft Projects

Student’s in Mr. Scott Dunn’s sixth grade science classes recently constructed replicas of some of history’s greatest space achievements.  The students used materials found around their homes and constructed detailed models to learn about mankind’s journeys into outer space.  

Fifth Grade Student Receive ZenPad Tablets Student Using ZenPad Tablets

All fifth grade students received a ZenPad tablet thanks to a recently awarded QualComm Wireless Reach grant.  The students will use their ZenPad to foster new creative and innovative ways to learn.

Are you interested involunteering at our school?  We would love your help.  If you are interested, please stop by Somerset Independent School District Office and see Mrs. Tracy McCrystal to sign up to be a volunteer for Meece Middle School.  All you will need to sign-up is a valid picture ID or driver's licence.

September is National Hispanic Heritage Month and students at Meece Middle School are celebrating cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America.

Student Accident Insurance Available

Our district has selected a Student Insurance option from K&K Insurance Group to make reliable coverage available to parents. If you do not have other insurance, this plan may be a resource to consider. Additionally, even if you have other coverage, this plan can help fill expense "gaps" caused by deductibles and co-pays. Coverage may be purchased at any time during he school year by visiting www.studentinsurance-kk.com.

Principal's Message

Welcome to Meece Middle School!

 

            Meece Middle School is the only middle school in the Somerset Independent School District.  We adhere to the mission of the Somerset Independent schools to create, implement, and maintain an environment which encourages all students to reach their fullest potential in school and in life.

 

            Meece Middle School is home to 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. We offer all basic core academic classes as well as accelerated math, science in all grades plus accelerated English in the 8th grade.  Our student elective classes include business and marketing, band, music, art, practical living, computer technology, Spanish, physical exercise and many more sub domains of career developing content.  The staff at Meece Middle School is dedicated to providing a rigorous curriculum in a student-centered, caring environment that enables all students to become productive citizens prepared to lead and serve in our community.  

 

            Meece Middle School holds true to the strong traditions and pride of the Somerset Independent School District.  With our strong focus on academics, we also provide the student body with various extracurricular activities including interscholastic athletics for all grades:  archery, dance, football, basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball, soccer, track, cross country, cheerleading, golf and trap and skeet team.  Students may choose to participate in STLP, drama, academic teams, student council, technology teams, Y-Club, FCA, John Sherman Cooper Leadership program, STAR Student Program, the 21 Century Afterschool Program and over 20 additional career development clubs intentionally designed to target the specific needs and wants to our student body.
