Somerset High School Principal
Welcome to Somerset High School and the 2019-2020 school year. My name is Jeff Wesley and as a graduate of the class of 1999 I am honored to serve as the Principal of Somerset High School. Our school is one of the oldest, most storied, and successful high schools in the state of Kentucky. Established in 1888, we are the home of the Briar Jumpers. Somerset High School has a great culture and atmosphere that makes it a very special place. Our main focal point is supporting and building relationships with students so we can help them reach their full potential as young men and women. Everything we do and every decision that is made is based on the simple concept of “what is best for our kids”.
Even though we have put an emphasis on having a caring environment, standards based learning is also a major focus. We believe it is essential that students master standards and become long term learners. Our faculty and students have worked tirelessly to make this one of the most exciting and successful academic eras in our schools history. Over the past several years we have continued to grow as an academic institution. We continue to see an increase of our composite ACT scores. KOSSA pass rates continue to rise, and accountability scores also continue to improve. This progression has enabled us not only to be the top Distinguished High School in our area, but also has allowed us to be ranked the 15th in the state of Kentucky by ACT score in 2018 and ranked 8th in the state of Kentucky as a district in 2018.
The staff at SHS are kind, concerned, knowledgeable, and dedicated to the continual improvement of this institution and the success of our students. Our students are fantastic young people from diverse backgrounds who come together each day to gain knowledge and contribute to a storied tradition of pride & excellence. We continue to have lofty goals for the 2019-2020 school year and look forward to seeing what our students will accomplish in the classroom, on the fields, on the stage, and on our courts. “Go Jumpers!!”
