Formative Assessments
- Kindergarten to 6th grade students will take the Discovery Education Assessment paper-based test in the areas of math and reading three times per year: September, December and March. The data from these assessments inform teachers of each student's progress on state standards. Fourth and 7th graders will take science, while 5th and 8th grade students will also take social studies.
- Students in 7th - 9th grades will participate in Measures of Academic Progress® or MAP® an online test in math and reading three times per year: September, December and March. Information from these assessments allow teachers and schools leaders identify students who need interventions or enrichment.
- Students from 10th to 12th grades will be taking College Equipped Readiness Tool, or CERT, an online assessment in the areas of English, math, reading, and science. Data from the tests will provide teachers and students information and video lessons to increase skills linked to the Career and College Readiness Standards.
State Assessments
ACT - All 11th grade students are required to take the ACT each year in March. The Council on Post-secondary Education benchmarks for this assessment are English = 18, Math = 19, and Reading = 20.
KSA - 3rd-8th grade students take the Kentucky Summative Assessments (KSA) test each year within the last 14 days of the school year. All grades take reading and math. Other tests are given: science at 4th & 7th grades, social studies at 5th & 8th grades, language mechanics in 4th & 6th grades, and on-demand writing at grades 5, 6, 8,10 and 11.
EOC - High school students enrolled in Algebra II, Biology, English 10, and US History will take an End of Course exam in the spring semester. This assessment will serve as a part of the school's accountability score as well as the student's final exam for the course.
ACCESS - English Language Learners take the ACCESS test to measure the level of English language skills. The assessment is given in a window during January/February.
Career and College Ready Assessments - Other assessments that allow students to show readiness for college or career include KOSSA, ASVAB, Work Keys, and KYOTE. Not all students are required to take these assessments. The high school guidance counselor will notify students if they are to take these tests.
